The EQ Parent Playbook - A Complete Checklist & Action Guide
A worksheet-led companion to The Emotional Intelligence Guide, designed to help you organise practice and reflection.
You have read an idea about supporting your child's feelings, but putting it into everyday life can be harder than understanding it. The EQ Parent Playbook offers places to write down a focus, record what you try, and revisit your approach.
This is an implementation workbook, not a second explanation-led teaching guide. Its chapter-by-chapter action checklists refer back to The Emotional Intelligence Guide: Teaching Kids to Recognise, Express & Manage Their Feelings, which is sold separately and is not included in this purchase.
What’s Inside
- Monthly EQ Progress Dashboard: rating grids for parent, child, and family reflection.
- Parent self-reflection and family audit: prompts about emotional habits and family interactions.
- My Child's Emotional Profile: space to note strengths, challenges, responses to overwhelm, and helpful support.
- Weekly practice grids: trackers for check-ins, reflection, modelling feelings, and noticing emotional courage.
- Seven part-by-part action checklists: implementation prompts corresponding to the main Guide's seven parts.
- Parent Calm-Down Checklist Card: an eight-step reference and post-storm reflection prompts.
- My Trigger Map Worksheet: space to explore situations, interpretations, body signals, and possible responses.
- Repair Tracker: ten log entries for recording attempted repair and what you noticed.
- Age-stage observation checklists: sections for ages 3–6, 7–10, 10–12, and 13–17.
- Emotional Wins Tracker: weekly grids for noticing parent and child practice.
- Emergency Scripts Cheat Sheet: suggested language for difficult conversations, with guidance on seeking support.
- 90-Day EQ Commitment: one focus, a chosen habit, and reflection pages for days 45 and 90.
Who It’s For
Parents and caregivers who prefer writing, checklists, and repeat-use planning pages alongside emotional-skills teaching. Its age-stage sections cover children aged 3–17. Choose prompts that fit your child's communication preferences and support needs, rather than treating every item as a requirement.
Do You Need the Main Guide?
The Playbook is written as a companion. Access to the main Guide is needed to follow the chapter-specific reading and action prompts as intended. Some reflection sheets, trackers, and scripts can be used on their own, but this workbook does not replace the Guide's explanations.
If you are starting from scratch and want to understand the approaches, start with the main Guide. Add this workbook only if you want its additional planning pages. You do not have to buy both to use the main Guide.
What Overlaps—and What Is Not Included
Calm-down references, scripts, and practice ideas overlap with the main Guide. This Playbook does not include the main Guide's complete three-part bonus toolkit or a separate feelings chart. Its distinct format is the collection of reflection sheets, trackers, and implementation checklists.
Reflection, Not Assessment
The PDF includes rating scales, family score bands, and pages labelled as milestones. These are not validated clinical or developmental assessment tools. Do not use the totals or labels to determine your family's emotional health, diagnose a difficulty, or decide whether your child needs professional support.
Use the pages as optional prompts for noticing patterns and choosing practice opportunities. A blank box or lower rating is not a verdict on your child or your parenting. The 90-day structure is a planning interval, not a promised outcome deadline.
This is general parenting information, not medical or psychological diagnosis or treatment. Safety takes priority over any checklist sequence. Seek qualified support for persistent concerns, loss of skills, or unsafe behaviour; do not wait to complete the workbook.
Format: Digital PDF workbook. Read on a device or print pages for personal use. No subscription.
